UNSPAM is a community event, and as such, we’re dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and harassment-free conference experience for everyone. We expect all present to treat each other with dignity, respect, tolerance, and dare we say kindness? Let’s be quick to listen and slow to judge. Let’s make room for differences of opinion, challenges to stereotypes, irreverent discourse, and questionable tastes in music. We do not tolerate harassment of any participant in any form.
Conference participants violating these rules may be expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers. And we may toilet paper expelled members' homes for good measure.
UNSPAM prohibits and will not tolerate discrimination and/or harassment (sexual or otherwise) for any reason, including based on any characteristic protected under state or federal law.
What is harassment?
Harassment includes offensive verbal remarks related to age, race, color, sex, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, religion (including religious dress and grooming), national origin, ancestry, mental or physical disability, medical condition, pregnancy, military or veteran status, citizenship, economic status, or any other attribute which can be used to discriminate against an individual or group of people.
Harassment also includes displaying sexual images, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, photography or recording of others without their permission, disruption of talks, inappropriate contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Keep in mind that this list is not exhaustive, and conference staff have the final say in determining what is deemed harassment or inappropriate behavior.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
How do I report an incident?
If you have safety concerns or see / hear someone not following this Code of Conduct, please contact a member of the event staff at the registration desk or wherever else you spot them. (We’ll point who are staff throughout the event.) If you cannot immediately find any event staff, please find a member of the venue staff and ask them to get in touch with us quickly.
All conference participants, including attendees, speakers, sponsors, and staff are subject to this Code of Conduct. Anyone found violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference (including conference-related social events) without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers. And we’ll also probably toilet paper their houses.
